How we keep StudentsToCareer safe
Verification, moderation, privacy controls and a real appeals process — safety here is a system, not a promise.
Protections built into the platform
- Employer verification: organizations cannot post opportunities or contact students until a human review approves them.
- Private by default: your profile sections start private; employer discovery is opt-in and reversible.
- Permission-gated messaging: private messaging opens only after an accepted connection (with structured mentorship and clearly-labelled, consent-based recruitment as the exceptions), with rate limits and spam detection. (Messaging activates in the Communication phase.)
- No pay-to-apply: a listing asking applicants for money is a violation — report it and we remove it.
- Audited administration: sensitive administrative actions are recorded in audit logs, and administrators cannot casually read private messages.
Recognizing employment scams
- Requests to pay for training, equipment or “processing” — always a scam.
- Interviews conducted only over chat apps, with instant offers.
- Cheques to deposit or crypto transfers — stop and report.
- Pressure to move the conversation off-platform immediately.
How to report
Every profile, listing and message will carry a report control. Until in-product reporting rolls out with the networking phase, use the contact form with the topic “Safety concern” — these reports are prioritized and reviewed by a person.
Warnings, suspensions and appeals
Violations lead to warnings, suspensions or permanent bans depending on severity, as set out in the Community Standards. You can appeal any enforcement decision via the contact form; appeals are reviewed independently of the original decision.
If you are in immediate danger
Contact local emergency services first. For wellbeing support in Canada, you can call or text 988 (Suicide Crisis Helpline), available 24/7.
